What the box takes and returns

instagram transcript generator

This generator takes an Instagram link and hands back the words spoken in the video as text. The post's own caption arrives as a separate title, so the transcript you copy is only what the audio said.

/reel/, /reels/, /p/ or /tv/ link, or the post code alone. Public posts only.

How I plan a week in twenty minutes

STATIC ILLUSTRATION · FICTIONAL TEXT

00:00I start with the three things that have to happen, not with everything I could do.

00:14Then each one gets a morning, because a morning is the smallest block I will protect.

00:31What is left goes to Friday, and most of it never survives the week, which is the point.

02 — WHAT COMES BACK EMPTY

Links that reach the box and still return no words

Six cases leave you with no words. The box or the server answers each one with its own sentence, so you can see what happened instead of just a failure.

  • A photo or a carousel. A /p/ link is read, but a post with no video has nothing to listen to: That Instagram post has no video in it, so there is no speech to read. Try a reel or a video post.
  • A story or a highlight. Neither uses one of the four path words, so the box refuses the address outright. This page has no story support, public or otherwise.
  • A private, removed or restricted post. From outside, those three look alike, and the reply says so: This Instagram post could not be loaded. It may be private, removed, or not available without signing in. Try another public post.
  • A video with no speech in it. Music only, or silence: This Instagram video came back without recognisable speech. Try a post that is mostly talking.
  • Audio longer than 20 minutes. The work is capped per request, and the reply is This Instagram video is longer than this page transcribes in one go.
  • A download that fails at that second. That one is worth a second try; the reply is This Instagram video could not be downloaded at that moment. Try again in a moment.
03 — WHAT THE RESULT CARD DOES

What the result card puts in each place

The card is two things, and they come from different places. The title is the creator's caption, with runs of whitespace squeezed to single spaces and the text cut at 300 characters.

Under it sit the spoken words, one paragraph per stretch of speech, in the order they were said. Caption text is never mixed into that body.

The line above the text reads Instagram · Speech recognition · Check important words against the original video. Instagram serves no caption track through its embed, so speech recognition is the only source here; the measurement behind that claim is on the Instagram transcript page.

The post code comes back as the result id, so a saved file carries the name of the post it came from.

04 — THE THREE FILES

TXT, SRT or VTT: what each file holds

All three files are built in the browser from the one result. TXT is the paragraphs with nothing added. SRT numbers each cue and writes its start and end with a comma before the milliseconds. VTT keeps those same cues under a WEBVTT first line, with a full stop before the milliseconds instead.

The download button takes the name of the post plus the extension. Making those files does not send anything anywhere.

05 — SIX QUESTIONS FIRST

Six questions worth asking before you paste a link into any generator

The pages that rank these tools keep judging them on the same few things. Here is that list, answered for this page, so you can hold the next one to it.

  1. Does it take the link, or make you download the video first? This one takes the link. There is no file step here.
  2. Does it read the words off the picture, or off the audio? The audio. A tool that reads a burned-in caption can only hand back what that caption already said, mistakes included.
  3. Does it say which links it will refuse before you paste one? The four path words and the code rule are in the table above, and the refusals about the link say what to paste instead; a video that is too long only says so, and a failed download only asks you to try again.
  4. Does the result belong to you, or to an account? It is a file on your device. Nothing here asks you to sign back in to find it.
  5. What is left after the tab closes? There is no account or saved personal history, and the page writes nothing to local storage. The browser response uses a no-store header, but successful Instagram transcripts may still be cached on our servers for up to 24 hours and reused for the same reel.
  6. Do you get a timed file as well as plain text? Yes: the same cues that carry a clock on screen go into SRT and VTT.
06 — BEFORE THE FIRST PASTE

Instagram link questions

Is the instagram transcript generator free?

Yes. Nothing on this page asks for an account, a card or an email address before it returns text.

Which Instagram links can I paste here?

A reel, reels, p or tv link on instagram.com, or the post code on its own. The code has to be 6 to 20 characters of letters, digits, underscores or hyphens.

Does a Stories link work?

No. A story address is not one of the four path words, so the box turns it down and no request goes out.

What happens with a photo post?

The /p/ address is read, but a post with no video comes back with the sentence about having no speech to read. A reel or a video post is the fix.

What do I get besides the words?

The caption as a title, a source line, and three file formats. The words themselves can be copied straight out of the card.

Is anything saved after I copy the text?

There is no account or saved personal history. Instagram transcripts may be cached for up to 24 hours and reused for requests for the same reel.
