The fastest path, click by click
This is how to get a transcript of a youtube video on this page. I walked it on a computer until the status line read “Done. TXT and SRT are ready.” and 43 nonempty lines showed in the box.
- Click the field at the top labeled for a YouTube URL or video ID (the box with the watch-link placeholder).
- Paste the watch URL, or paste the 11-character ID by itself.
- Click the blue Get transcript button to the right of that field (on a narrow screen it sits under the field, full width).
- Wait for the status line directly under the button. On the run I finished, it changed from “Loading transcript…” to “Done. TXT and SRT are ready.”
- When that status is green, the result block is no longer hidden. Click Copy to put the text on the clipboard, or Download TXT / Download SRT under that status line.
I did not need an account for those clicks. If the status line stays red, skip to “When this page says no.”
How to tell if the watch page can show captions
On a computer watch page I opened two clips and looked at the player, not at this form. Move the pointer over the video so the bottom bar appears. On the right cluster of that bar, the controls I saw, in order, included: expand, autoplay, the subtitles control, then Settings, theater, play on TV, and fullscreen. The subtitles control is the button immediately left of Settings. In this browser it is a 48×40 control in that right group.
On both watch pages the accessible name of that button, in that browser’s UI language, was the phrase meaning “cannot display captions.” One time it was pressed, one time it was not. For one of those IDs I then came back to this form, clicked Get transcript, and still got 43 lines. So that button name, in the session I walked, was not a reliable “this form will fail” signal. I did not get a session where the same button’s name was a clear “captions on” label. That on-state is not measured.
I also did not finish opening a watch page where that subtitles button was missing from the right cluster. How the bar looks with no subtitles control is not measured. If you cannot find a control immediately left of Settings after the bottom bar appears, treat that as “I have not confirmed captions in the player,” then try the form on this page anyway and read the status line.
Computer versus phone
Computer, this site: the five clicks above. I walked them. Computer, watch page: bottom bar, right cluster, immediately left of Settings. I walked that look-up on two clips.
Phone: I did not complete these steps on a real phone, so the phone layout is not measured. I am not going to invent a three-dot menu, a share sheet, or a player button I did not tap. On a phone, the only path I can stand behind is the form at the top of this page: tap the URL field, paste, tap Get transcript, then tap Copy or a download button if they appear. Whether the watch-page subtitles control sits left of Settings on a phone player is not measured.
When this page says no, and what to try next
If Get transcript fails, the result block stays hidden. There is no Copy to click. I hit that once in this walk: the status line said “Empty transcript.” I then pasted a different ID, clicked Get transcript again, and the status became “Done. TXT and SRT are ready.”

Alternative I can describe from the field itself: paste a full
youtube.com/watch?v=URL, ayoutu.be/URL, or only the 11-character ID, then click Get transcript again. - Status says this video has no usable caption track, or the caption track came back empty. Alternative: open the watch page, reveal the bottom bar, and look immediately left of Settings. If you still cannot turn captions on, pick a different clip that does show captions in that player, copy that URL, and run Get transcript again. I did not prove that a player label meaning “cannot display captions” always matches an empty track here (it did not, on the ID that later returned 43 lines).
- Status says YouTube refused this request. Alternative: wait, then click Get transcript again with the same URL. I did not time how long to wait.
- Status says this video cannot be played here. Alternative: try a public watch URL that actually opens the player for you, then paste that URL into the field on this page.

Do I have to use the watch page at all?
No. The fastest path I finished never left this page: paste, Get transcript, Copy. Looking at the player is only for judging whether captions exist when this page says no.
How to get transcript from youtube video if I only have the ID?
Paste the 11 characters into the same field and click Get transcript. That is the same button as with a full URL.
How to get the script of a youtube video as spoken lines on screen?
After a successful Get transcript, the large box under Copy is the script. I did not walk a separate “script only, no timestamps” control; the box is the plain text. Timed file saving is the SRT button, which I did not click in this walk.
How to get transcript of youtube video without creating an account?
The run I finished did not ask for an account. I am not describing a sign-in step I did not see.
