What happens when you paste a link
The link you paste is sent to this site’s servers, which run on Cloudflare, and it is processed there to produce the transcript. Two things can happen next, depending on the video:
- If the video already has a caption track — uploaded by its creator or generated by the platform — this site asks the platform for that caption file and reads the text from it.
- If there is no caption track, this site downloads the video, keeps only the audio track, and sends that audio to a speech recognition model (Whisper, running on Workers AI, the same provider that hosts this site). The words come back as text.
In both cases the video has to be public. Private or removed posts cannot be read, and the page will say so.
What is not kept
- No accounts and no sign-up, so there is no profile about you to store.
- No history of the links you paste, and no list of past jobs.
- No copies of the videos you transcribe and no saved transcript files on the server: the result is put together in your browser, and the download buttons create a file on your own device.
- Nothing is sold, and there is no profile of you to sell.
Server logs kept by the hosting provider record standard request information, such as the time of a request and the address it came from, for security and troubleshooting.
Third parties involved
- Cloudflare hosts this site and runs the code that fetches captions and audio, and the speech recognition step.
- The platform you paste a link from (YouTube, TikTok or Instagram) receives the request for the video that this site makes on your behalf.
- Google Analytics 4 runs on every page of this site. It counts visits and pages viewed and sets its own cookies (the
_gafamily) to tell repeat visits apart. Addresses are shortened for storage by the analytics product. - Cloudflare Web Analytics is served with pages from Cloudflare’s network. It is cookieless and reports aggregate visit counts.
Advertising and affiliate links
There is no advertising or affiliate link on this site today. It may add third-party advertising and affiliate links in the future to cover the cost of running it. If that happens, this page will be updated first to name the networks involved, and the ad or affiliate relationship will be labelled where it appears.
Changes
If the way this site handles data changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. Questions about anything on this page can go to the address on the contact page.
