TikTok transcript not working?
Start with the message.

When a TikTok transcript fails, start with the message shown on the page. The cases below explain the common messages and the next step to try.

TroubleshootingTikTokPublic videos

02 / THE VIDEO WILL NOT LOAD

A valid link can still lead to a video nobody can reach.

A link can be well formed and still lead nowhere. In that case the page says: “This TikTok video could not be loaded right now. Try again in a moment, or try another public video.” Common causes are that the video is private or limited to followers, that the creator removed it after sharing, or that the link was cut short on its way through a chat app.

Opening the same link in a private browser window is a useful check. If the video does not play there, the page is unlikely to reach it either, because the tool reads the public video page that any visitor sees. Only public videos are supported. Treat the test as a clue and not a verdict: a video that plays in your browser can still fail here.

A different message, “TikTok refused this request. Wait a moment and try again.”, means the request failed or was refused on the way. It does not tell you whether the video is available. Wait a minute and paste the link again before you change anything else.

03 / NO WORDS COME BACK

An empty result can come from captions or speech recognition.

WatchToText reads a caption track when the video carries one, and listens to the audio when it does not. If the route the page takes returns no usable words, you may see one of these two sentences. “The caption track came back empty. Try a video that shows captions in the TikTok app.” means a caption track was found with nothing usable inside it. “This video has no caption track and its audio came back without recognisable speech.” means speech recognition returned no usable speech.

Music, sound effects and silence are not speech, and neither is text that only appears on screen. A video that is mostly a song, with a voice somewhere underneath, can fall into the same group, because speech recognition struggles once the music is as loud as the voice.

A third message, “This TikTok video has no caption track, and its audio could not be downloaded. Try again in a moment.”, is about the audio file rather than what is in it, so the sensible first move is simply to try again.

To check the page itself, paste a different public video with a clear spoken voice. If that one returns text, the page is working, and the cause may lie with the first video or with how the tool retrieved it.

04 / LIMITS YOU CAN HIT

Length and volume limits come with their own messages.

Speech recognition has a ceiling of 20 minutes per video. A video past it comes back with: “This TikTok video has no caption track, and its audio is longer than this page transcribes in one go.” The ceiling belongs to the speech route only. When a video already carries a caption track, the page reads that track and the 20 minutes never come into it.

Two other limits apply to a whole network rather than to one video. Fresh requests from one network share a limit of 3 links per minute, counted across the YouTube, TikTok and Instagram pages together. Past that, the page says how long to wait, for example: “Too many requests from this network. Up to 3 links per minute are allowed. Try again in 12 seconds.” The number is however much of that minute is left. Wait that long before you try again. Because the count belongs to the network, a shared connection such as a school or an office can reach the limit faster than a home connection.

Speech recognition also has a daily allowance of 30 minutes for each network, and a daily limit for the site as a whole. When either is used up the message says so, and it adds: “Links with captions still work.” The network allowance resets at 00:00 UTC.

05 / STILL STUCK

When the link will not work, use the file.

A video you can play but the page cannot read can still be transcribed from a file. If you can save the video, or already have it, use the upload route described in MP4 to text. It takes MP3, M4A, WAV, MP4, MOV and WebM files up to 20 minutes and 200 MB, and it does not depend on TikTok answering at all.

For a clean first run from the beginning, the step-by-step TikTok walkthrough goes through the link, the wait and the result in order.

06 / QUESTIONS

Can I transcribe a private TikTok video?

No. The page reads public videos only. Private or followers-only videos are not supported.

Why does one video return text at once and another take longer?

A video with a caption track is read straight from the track. One without is listened to, which takes longer because the audio has to be worked through first.

Does the page transcribe text shown on the screen?

No. It reads a caption track or listens to speech. Words that only appear on screen are part of neither.

What do I do when the speech limit is used up?

Links to videos with captions still work. For a video without captions, the network allowance resets at 00:00 UTC, so the choice is to try again after that.
